When Green Sakthi began in 1998 in the rural village of Thirumalaikodi in Tamil Nadu, there was no electricity, nor public transport, the natural area was arid, neglected, dry and hot. The soil itself was compact and extremely difficult to work with. Because of the lack of trees, intense heat was radiating from surface areas due to the hot climate. There were only small shrubs in the area.

We started planted one tree at a time... and have now planted and donated a total of 2 million trees on our campus and locally. We have donated trees to farmers, villagers, schools, temples, government organisations.

The Kailasa Giri Hill (see photo) that are now lush and fertile were then completely barren.

Our goal this year:

create a forest

in Tamil Nadu

The Kailasa Hills : before

The Kailasa Hills : 700 000 trees planted

"Worldwide walk 4 Trees was an incredibly fun & rewarding experience shared with our children and their friends (plus siblings & parents!) Everyone loved it so much that we’ve committed to doing it every year!"

Dr Fiona Enkelman, Australia.

All of the money you raise goes directly to our growing trees in our tree nursery and planting trees and creating a forest this year in the Vellore region of Tamil Nadu
